Things Parents Should Know
Attendance
Texas Senate Bill 1 states that the student will lose credit for a class if he attends fewer than 90% of the days the class meets. Absences must be reported to the attendance clerk each day that a student is absent.
ECISD Make-Up Policy
Students shall be allowed one school day for each consecutive absence plus one day to make up assignments and tests.
Late Arrival to School
A student will be counted absent from any class period if he or she is 15 or more minutes late.
Tardies
A student who arrives after the tardy bell will report immediately to class. Students who are consistently tardy will face consequences which will include warnings, after-school detention, referrals, ISS, and parent conferences. Tardies will start over at the beginning of each six weeks.
Hallway Expectations
Students should not be in the hallways without a pass at any time.
Supplies
Students must have all required supplies for all classes. Parents will be called and notified if students do not comply.
Cafeteria
Students may not take any food items from the cafeteria. Tables are to be left clean. All paper, cartons and trays need to be placed in the trash cans. Students will form single-file lines. If a student is caught cutting in line they will be sent to the end of the line. Parents will not be allowed to bring lunch to students during the school year. Students are required to eat the lunch served by the cafeteria staff or bring a lunch from home. Students may *not* order from delivery services.
Breakfast
Breakfast will be served to all students in the cafeteria before first period.
Lunch Detention
Students assigned to lunch detention will immediately report to the designated Lunch D-Hall area. Failure to report immediately will result in additional consequences.
Lockers
Lockers will be available upon request after Labor Day. Students are not allowed to share their locker or combination with other students. Students are responsible for the contents of their locker. Please see an assistant principal for a locker permission form.
Textbooks
Classroom sets will be issued to each teacher. If you would like a personal copy of a textbook, you may check them out in the library after completing a textbook form and returning it with a parent or guardian's signature.
ECISD Secondary School Redo Policy
In accordance with grading guidelines, teachers shall implement a policy regarding the re-doing of an assignment or test that resulted in a failing grade. Those policies will allow a student the opportunity to re-take tests or re-do assignments that resulted in a failing grade after initial completion of the assignment or test. An assignment must be turned in by the original due date to be considered "completed." A grade of zero for failing to turn in an assignment is not considered a failing grade for purposes of this re-do section. Assignments or tests missed due to an absence are covered in the Student Handbook under "Makeup Work."
The policy shall be instituted as follows:
∗ Students shall be given up to three class days to re-do a failed assignment or re-take a failed exam.
∗ Students shall be allowed one opportunity to re-do this work. It is the student’s responsibility to establish the makeup date and time with the teacher within the original three-day window; in the event of a scheduling conflict it is the responsibility of the teacher to work with the student to set up a mutually agreed upon date and time for the work to be done even if that scheduled time exceeds the original three-day window. Re-done work shall receive a maximum grade of 75.
∗ This re-take policy does not apply to semester and/or final exams; nor does it apply to dual credit or concurrent courses being taken off-site.
∗ At teacher discretion an alternate assignment or alternate test may be offered.
∗ The time period to re-do an assignment or re-take a test begins when the test or assignment is returned to the student.
∗ If the student fails the re-test/re-take the higher of the two grades will be taken.
